Choir Friends Supporting BRISTOL MALE VOICE CHOIR Running a choir is an expensive business and we are an ambitious choir with exciting plans for the future. You can play a big part in helping to achieve our aims by becoming a Choir Friend. For an annual fee of £20 single or £30 for a joint/family membership (2 people), you will receive:- • A Friend membership card and BMVC pin badge. • A twice yearly newsletter giving accounts of choir news, past and future events. • Facility to travel in the Choir coach to away concerts at chorister rate (subject to availability) • To travel with the Choir on tour at chorister rate. In 1968, a small group of dedicated workers from the British Aircraft Company came together to form the Filton Glee Club. As the choir grew, it evolved into the Filton Male Choir, gaining recognition for its exceptional performances. Today, as the Bristol Male Voice Choir, we proudly welcome choristers from the local and surrounding area, celebrating a diverse repertoire that includes pop classics, gospel songs, musicals, Mozart, sea shanties, and timeless male voice classics. If you are interested in joining the choir or just want to drop in, a good first step would be to call into one of our rehearsals. We meet every Thursday evening from 7.00 to 9.15 pm at St Andrew's Methodist Church, Elm Park, Filton, BS34 7PS (It's a good idea to check before you turn up). At the first rehearsal, you can just sit and listen or get involved straight away if you wish. You don't have to be able to read music but If you can it's clearly an advantage. We learn our music guided by our musical director, a great teacher, and all four parts are recorded individually and are accessible on your home computer. If you decide to join you will be allocated an experienced choir member that sings your part as your singing partner and mentor and you'll be asked by our MD to do a brief voice test that aims to place your voice in the tenors or basses according to your vocal range.After a few months, having learned words and music at regular rehearsals and at home, you will be able to join in your first concert. Our learning aids on the internet are very important as practice tools over and above the regular weekly sessions. You will find a warm welcome awaiting you, and you can expect to get a lot of support and encouragement from a friendly social group of men who just love to sing. Since then, she has worked with a wide variety of ensembles, bringing her expertise and dedication to every performance. Her love of choral music was shaped early on through the rich traditions of the eisteddfods, where she developed a deep appreciation for vocal harmony and ensemble singing. This foundation, combined with an eclectic musical taste, informs her approach as a conductor and educator. She is committed to blending traditional repertoire with the wealth of exciting new music and genres available, ensuring that every group she works with experiences both the classics and contemporary innovations. In her twenties, she had the privilege of collaborating with the late Leanne Kane, an American opera singer who had moved to the UK. Their partnership flourished both in recital performances, where Lottie served as an accompanist, and in larger productions, including Bernstein’s Mass, for which she was Musical Director. As a composer, she has written several choral works, including a Christmas Mass for divisi choir, showcasing her ability to craft intricate and expressive vocal music. While circumstances did not allow her to pursue music as a full-time career, her lifelong dedication to teaching and community engagement has left a lasting impact. She has taught music privately, supported educational initiatives in schools, and in 2013, founded Stroud’s first community choir for women, followed by a male voice choir the following year. A skilled multi-instrumentalist, she studied oboe and piano and spent a decade touring with youth orchestras and various ensembles, primarily as an oboist but also occasionally performing on saxophone. Her diverse musical experiences continue to inform her work as a conductor, composer, and educator, inspiring those she works with to explore a wide and vibrant musical landscape. Chris Green Accompanist Chris has worked in the education and creative sectors in Bristol for many years, with a particular focus on enabling children and young people to access high-quality musical experiences. She is passionate about widening participation in music-making and believes strongly in its power to bring people together. As Education Manager at Bristol Beacon, Chris played a key role in coordinating music education initiatives across the city. She later became Planning & Production Director for the National Children’s Orchestras, leading the Operations Team to deliver outstanding performances in some of the UK's most prestigious venues. In 2025, Chris took up the baton as Music Director of Rangeworthy Singers – a mixed-voice community choir offering people of all ages the opportunity to sing and perform together. A dedicated pianist, Chris finds great joy in accompanying musicians of all ages. She regularly supports young performers in music exams and enjoys accompanying choirs including the Filtones Choir and Frampton Cotterell Male Voice Choir. She is delighted to be supporting Lottie and accompanying Bristol Male Voice Choir.
