TOUR OF USA SEPTEMBER 2008

In September 2008 Bristol Male Voice Choir toured Eastern U.S.A. to celebrate the 40th Anniversary of the choirs foundation. The tour programme reflecting the links between the City of Bristol in England and of the like named cities in the eastern U.S.A. The first concert was performed at the Paramount Centre in Bristol Tennessee/Virginia. The choir received a standing ovation from the capacity audience and was thrilled to be presented with a Key to the City by the Mayoral representative.

Next stop was the City of Bristol, Pennsylvania. The Choir was taken on a tour of the charming City centre by the local historical society and sang some impromptu songs on the Old Wharf overlooking the Delaware River. The evening concert at the Riverside Theatre was well received with another standing ovation and presentation to the choir of a plaque to mark the occasion.

Travelling to north of New York City, our third concert was in Bristol, Connecticut. Here the choir sang to a packed audience in the church of St. Joseph where the Mayor presented the choir with the city flag\banner after another standing ovation! The choir was well looked after with a reception following the concert and each chorister was presented with a small Key to the City by the Mayor. Along the way the choir was privileged to sing at the Liberty Bell in Philadelphia, Pennsbury Manor at the Home of William Penn as well as hotels and restaurants on route. The whole tour was a great success taking in many historical sites, many hotels , scenery and having good fun.

The climax of the tour for everyone was New York where the choir sang in the Carnegie Hall with 450 other male voices from all over the world and with special guest soloist the Welsh Baritone Bryn Terfel. The rich sound of almost 500 men singing with the incredible voice of Bryn was pure magic and will be remembered by all.

Well done lads, here's to the next 40 years.
